1) Board Games
There are some fantastic games that help reinforce colors, counting, and more.
– For the 24-30 month age range, I highly recommend Roll and Play as well as Think Fun Move and Groove.
This game has a large cube with different colors. You role the cube, and then pick a card that matches the color face up.
The different colored cards teach different skills: emotions, colors, animal sounds, body parts, counting, and actions. It’s a fabulous game that encourages learning, fun and taking turns!
– For the 30-34 month age range, I highly recommend Candy Land, Hi Ho Cherry-O, and Let’s Go Fishin.
2) Simon Says
Simon says, “touch your nose”. Simon says “find something green”. Honestly, Simon says is an amazing game that you can play with your 2-year-old to teach pretty much everything!
Not to mention, it teaches good listening skills in a fun and interactive way.
I am a firm believer in being active while learning at such a young age, and games like this are the perfect combination of physical activity and mental focus
Try watercolour paints, acrylic paints, crayons, markers, pens, and pencils. Use paper, cardboard, coloring books, whiteboards or chalkboards for different mediums.
Let your child have fun and even make a mess. You’ll be amazed at how long they focus in on the activity at this age when they are having fun!
4) Scavenger Hunt
You could do a verbal version of this and just tell your child what you’ll be looking for next, or you can find some pictures of items, print it out, and have your child look for these items around the house, and mark them off as they find each item.
I think children have much more fun if they get to mark items off as they go!
When it comes to doing activities to do at home with a 2 year old, you have to be creative and think a little outside of the box.
